A Cambridge-founded maker of antibodies and research reagents used by scientists around the world in drug discovery and diagnostics.
Abcam supplies antibodies, reagents, biomarkers and assays. Researchers use them to study disease, discover new drugs and develop diagnostic tests. It also partners with life science organisations to co-develop new binders for drug discovery and therapeutics. It says about 750,000 researchers use its technologies.
We did not find a mission statement on the pages we read. A job listing page quotes the company as supplying research tools for over 20 years to help achieve faster breakthroughs in areas like cancer.
ACQUIRED: by Danaher (2023). Abcam was founded in 1998 and is based in Cambridge, UK, with a headquarters site there, and Danaher said it expected Abcam to remain a standalone operating company and brand within its Life Sciences segment. Cambridge careers pages still operate under the Abcam name.
We did not find culture or values statements. A third-party job board profile describes it as a science and biotechnology company with 1,001 to 5,000 employees, which we could not confirm on its own site.
Early-careers evidence is thin and dated. A Cambridgeshire Lab Support Technician Degree Apprenticeship was listed on a job board but has closed, and we could not confirm its length, level or entry requirements. In 2013 it hosted BTEC Science students from Cambridge Regional College for talks, a lab tour and CV advice. Check Abcam's careers site for current apprenticeships and placements.
