A podcast company that helps creators make, distribute and earn from their shows, with a London hub for its UK and Ireland team.
Acast describes itself as the world's leading independent podcast company. It works with podcasters, who use its technology to publish and grow their shows, and with advertisers who want to reach podcast audiences. It supports both audio and video podcasts, which matters as more people now watch podcasts as well as listen.
We did not find a formal mission statement in the material we read. Its UK launch announcement talks about fostering creativity among creators, advertisers and its own staff, empowering podcasters and advertisers, and helping move the whole industry forward. Those are the themes it returns to. Podcasts have grown from a niche hobby into a mainstream way to get news, comedy, sport and learning, and Acast sits behind many of the shows people already listen to. Its work is part technology and part creative partnership, so people there include engineers and data staff as well as producers and sales teams.
In late November 2024 Acast opened a new UK headquarters in the Old Street area of central London. The announcement said about 100 people work for Acast in the UK. Josh Woodhouse is Managing Director for UK and Ireland and Sam Shetabi is Executive Content Director for the UK. The hub has four studios for audio, video and photography, including one set up for large video podcasts.
The company says it designed the space to feel warm and home-like, with murals, a living wall and a creator-first ground floor. A Collaboration Hub is meant to bring podcasters and advertisers together on campaigns. One studio, the Amazon Music Studio, is free for new and emerging creators through a partnership with Amazon Music. These descriptions are the company's own, so ask staff what daily life is really like. The Old Street area is part of London's busy tech and media district, close to start-ups, studios and agencies, which makes it an easy place for creators and advertisers to meet. The studios are also used for video podcasts, reflecting a shift from audio only to shows you can watch.
Roles at Acast cover a wide range of functions. UK job listings we saw included studio production, content development, sales and software engineering, which shows how many different skills a podcast business needs. Named UK shows it works with include The Fellas, Off Menu and Katherine Ryan's podcast, and it says it works with every major UK news publisher. Fun fact from the launch event: it was attended by creators including Adam Buxton, Pete Wicks and Elizabeth Day, which shows the mix of comedy, reality TV and writing the company works with. The announcement also said an in-house brand team designed the space, so design and brand roles exist inside the company.
