Acturis

A UK software company, founded in 2000 with offices in London and Birmingham, whose cloud platform helps insurance brokers, insurers and managing general agents run their business.

About Acturis

Acturis is a software company for the insurance industry. Its cloud platform, which it calls the Acturis SaaS platform, is used by insurance brokers, insurers and managing general agents for administration, distribution and underwriting, and it connects in real time to insurers so that a broker can get quotes and place business from one system. The Acturis Group also includes ICE InsureTech, which makes software for insurers, MGAs and claims administrators, and NIS, which makes software for travel, assistance and health insurance and has customers in more than 40 countries.

The company says it began with "an ambitious idea in 2000". It states its goal as "since day one our goal has been to be the best", and it describes a unique approach to software and a record of helping to drive change in the industry over two decades. It also says "we don't talk about digital transformation, we deliver it" and "we don't just connect markets, we create them". We did not find a longer published mission statement or a list of values, so we do not quote any further.

Acturis is a UK business. A workplace profile lists a London headquarters at Hatton Garden in Holborn and a second office in Birmingham, at Newhall Street. Its own group page says its platform is used by over 20,000 people across more than 450 UK sites, and the profile gives a headcount of about 524, though that is a third-party figure and may be out of date. The group has also built a business in Germany, Acturis Deutschland, which offers broker software and price information there. Its customers include brokers, insurers and managing general agents, and it is a member of the Managing General Agents' Association.

Acturis has been recognised by the industry for its work, including Insurance Times Business Partner of the Year in 2018 and awards for outsourced partner and business partnership in 2016, according to its own page. It describes its approach as being delivery-focused and its leaders on its page include Andrew Passfield, who leads ICE InsureTech, and Jeff McCracken, who leads sales and marketing for Acturis. The profile we read says employees work from its offices, but did not describe the culture, so we cannot say more about day-to-day life there.

A software supplier to insurance employs developers and testers, business analysts who understand how brokers and insurers work, implementation and support teams who help customers use the system, data and integration specialists who connect it to insurers, sales and account managers, and finance and people teams. Because its customers work in insurance every day, an interest in how insurance really works is a real advantage alongside the technical skills.
