Admiral Group is an insurance and financial services company founded in 1993 and headquartered in Cardiff, Wales. Its best-known product is car insurance, and its UK brands include Admiral, Admiral Business, Admiral Money, Admiral Pioneer, Bell, Diamond, Elephant, Gladiator, MoreThan and Veygo. It also sells insurance in France, Italy and Spain.
Admiral states its purpose as "to help more people to look after their future; always striving for better together." It says it wants to grow selectively, make its products inclusive, affordable and safe, and keep a customer promise built on Value, Trust and Ease. A third goal is to "amplify the Admiral DNA" by evolving its culture and developing talent. It also says it is investing in data and AI to improve what it offers.
Admiral says it is the only FTSE 100 company headquartered in Wales. Its UK offices listed on its site are Tŷ Admiral in Cardiff, a second Cardiff site at Capital Tower used by Admiral Pioneer, Veygo and Admiral Business, Admiral Group House in Swansea, and a Peterborough site for pet and household claims. A careers page also names Newport. A company news release marking 25 years said the business launched on 2 January 1993 with one brand, no customers and 57 staff, and that by then about 9,000 people worked there, over 6,300 of them in South Wales (as at that release). The group now says it has over 11,000 colleagues.
Admiral describes its culture as built on four pillars: Communication, Equality, Reward and Recognition, and Fun, with the motto "People who like what they do, do it better!" These are the company's own claims. It says it has run employee share plans since it listed, and it reports taking part in workplace rankings such as Great Place to Work and the Sunday Times Best Companies lists. Its careers site says an annual staff survey found most people would recommend working there, but we did not find the survey year. Its four stated commitments are to customers (service quality reviewed daily), people, the community (charitable giving, sponsorship and staff-funded causes) and the environment.
The jobs people do at Admiral are varied. Its careers site lists contact centre, claims, HR, law, digital, finance and actuarial, pricing and analytics, marketing, underwriting and telematics teams. That makes it a good company to look at if you like customer-facing work, numbers and data, or technology. Roles are spread across several Welsh cities as well as Peterborough.
