About Adthena

Adthena is a UK marketing technology company, based in London, that makes search intelligence software. Its platform uses artificial intelligence, language analysis and large amounts of data to study search engine results pages. Brands and agencies use it to see which keywords and adverts competitors are running, where money is being spent, and whether other companies are bidding on their brand name without permission. It also offers dashboards for comparing a brand against its market.

We did not find a mission statement or values on the pages we could read, so we cannot quote the company's own words about its purpose. What the public record does show is a clear focus: helping advertisers make sense of paid search and protect their brand in it. Paid search simply means the adverts that appear alongside normal search results, which brands pay for when someone clicks, so a tool like this helps marketers spend their budgets sensibly. The AdGooroo business it bought from Kantar added a longer-established set of search tracking products to its own. In November 2025 it was recognised as a Google Trusted Trademark Partner for brand protection in paid search.

Ian O'Rourke founded Adthena in 2012. It has its headquarters in London and expanded into the United States in 2017. In January 2021 it bought the paid search intelligence business formerly known as AdGooroo from Kantar. In December 2020 it launched a tool giving more detailed local search insights. Job adverts for roles such as business development representative and customer success manager appear on a jobs board, which helps confirm that it recruits UK-based staff.

The public sources we read give little detail about team size, culture or office addresses, so these are gaps. A search intelligence company needs software engineers, data scientists, analysts who explain results to customers, sales staff and marketers, so there are many different ways to work in a business like this.

If you are interested in how Google adverts work, why some brands appear above others and how companies protect their names online, Adthena is a good company to look at. Ask about its team and culture at interview, since we could not verify this from its own words.
