Aegon UK

An Edinburgh-based pensions, savings and protection provider tracing back to 1831, which agreed in April 2026 to be bought by Standard Life but still trades as Aegon UK.

About Aegon UK

Aegon UK helps people in the UK save for retirement and look after their money. It works with financial advisers, employers and customers on pensions, investments, savings and protection. It offers workplace pensions, a Master Trust pension scheme, ISAs, life insurance and investment products. Aegon UK sells mostly through advisers and employers rather than directly to the public, so much of its work is about making the systems and support that advisers and workplace schemes depend on run smoothly. Wikipedia says its products include Retiready, a free retirement planning service launched in 2014.

ACQUIRED: by Standard Life plc (agreed April 2026; the company still trades as Aegon UK). The business began in Edinburgh in 1831 as the Scottish Equitable Life Assurance Society, and the legal company is still called Scottish Equitable plc. A profile says it combines that heritage with Aegon's global strength. We did not find a short mission statement, so we can only say it focuses on long-term savings and retirement.

Aegon UK is headquartered in Edinburgh, with an address at Edinburgh Park. Wikipedia lists offices in Edinburgh, London, Lytham St Annes, Peterborough and Witham, and said it had over 2,000 UK employees at the end of 2021. It reports 3.8 million UK customers. Jobs are advertised for roles such as customer care associates in Edinburgh. Aegon UK is itself part of Aegon Ltd, a multinational life insurance, pensions and asset management company based in Bermuda, although the UK arm described here runs its own UK business. Wikipedia also records brands and businesses that came with its growth: Cofunds, Pension Geeks (acquired in 2021) and Retiready. Scottish Financial Enterprise gives the Lochside Crescent address in Edinburgh.

Over the years it grew by joining up with other firms, including Cofunds in 2016 and BlackRock's UK workplace pension platform business in 2018. It is a Living Wage employer (as at 2021) and a signatory to the Women in Finance Charter and the Race at Work Charter. Those are commitments the company has made, so ask how they work in practice.

Leadership listed by Wikipedia includes chief executive Mike Holliday-Williams, but that list is dated and may have changed. With a sale to Standard Life agreed, its future structure is not yet clear, so check which brand and offices applicants are joining. Wikipedia adds that the company offers graduate apprenticeships and a marketing graduate scheme (as at its last update), and that its executive team includes technology, service, distribution, risk, HR, finance and legal leaders, which shows the range of jobs inside a pensions company. Staff in Edinburgh, Lytham St Annes, Peterborough, Witham and London may be working on customer service, platform operations, technology and advice support.
