About Airwallex

Airwallex is a global financial technology company that helps businesses move money across borders. It offers international payments and foreign exchange, business accounts, expense and spend cards, payroll and online payment acceptance. It was developed to lower the cost of cross-border business payments.

It was founded in 2015 in Melbourne, Australia, by Jack Zhang, Max Li, Lucy Liu, Xijing Dai and Ki-lok Wong. It is dual-headquartered in San Francisco and Singapore. Wikipedia says it had around 2,000 employees in 2026 and had picked up around 80 licences and permits worldwide by the end of 2025.

Airwallex's careers site advertises many roles based in London, including account executives, compliance, regulatory and revenue strategy roles, and a blog post describes a senior engineer returning to build in London.

We did not find a formal mission statement.

For young people, Airwallex is a global company with a real UK team, so it is a good example of how a business that began in Australia can build a UK presence. We did not find a UK early-careers programme, so check its careers page.
