Alchemab Therapeutics

A UK biotech that studies the antibodies of people who stay healthy against disease, to discover new medicines for conditions such as ALS.

About Alchemab Therapeutics

Alchemab Therapeutics is a drug discovery company. It looks at the natural antibody responses of people who are unusually resilient to disease, finds antibodies that resilient people share but people whose disease progresses do not, and then develops them into new medicines. It focuses on hard-to-treat conditions, including neurodegeneration and cancer.

The company describes its goal as understanding what keeps people well and using the human immune system to find breakthrough drugs. Its first programme, ATLX-1282, has been licensed to Eli Lilly for ALS and other neurodegenerative conditions, with Alchemab taking it into early human trials.

Alchemab has its headquarters in London and laboratories in Cambridge. One placement listing puts the work site at Whittlesford, just south of Cambridge. Its chief executive is Dr Jane Osbourn.

The team combines machine learning, patient immune data and laboratory science, so people from biology, chemistry and data backgrounds work side by side. We did not find the company's own words on culture, so ask about this at interview.

Early-career routes are sourced: Alchemab advertised 9 to 12 month industrial placements for undergraduates (as at 2025). The one we read needed a student on a BSc in a life-science subject who had finished at least one year, whose university allowed a placement year, and who had the right to work in the UK. Pay was not stated, and that listing had closed. Check the Alchemab careers page for the current intake.
