The UK arm of the discount supermarket chain, with over 1,000 stores and a head office in Atherstone, Warwickshire.
Aldi UK is the British arm of Aldi, a discount supermarket chain. It sells mostly its own-brand groceries from stores that are kept simple. Its recruitment site says its first UK store opened in Stechford, Birmingham, on 5 April 1990, and it now reports over 1,050 stores (the same page also says more than 1,080 in one place) and over 43,000 UK colleagues. Globally the page says Aldi has over 7,000 stores in 11 countries and over 200,000 people.
Aldi describes its philosophy as offering products of the highest quality at the lowest price. Its recruitment site also says "Our people are the heart of everything we do", puts customers "at the heart of everything we do", and says it uses five Corporate Responsibility Principles. We did not find a longer mission statement. The page notes that the UK business is part of Aldi Sud, which it says has over 5,000 stores.
The UK head office is at Atherstone, in Warwickshire, where the company says its UK operations began. Buying, central finance and administration, IT and corporate responsibility teams are based there. The recruitment site also lists regional operations and distribution centres at Bathgate in Scotland (opened 2004), Darlington (1995), Bolton (1991, now relocated to a new site), Goldthorpe (2015), Neston (2006), Sawley in the Midlands, Cardiff (2017), Swindon (1998), Chelmsford (2000) and Sheppey (2019). Between them they serve stores in Scotland, Wales and every region of England.
Aldi's own site says it was named Happiest Place to Work at the Retail Week Awards 2026 and Retail Employer of the Year at The Grocer Gold Awards 2025, its fourth win in that category. It says it ranked 10th in The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers 2024, 38th in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers, and is listed in the UK and Ireland Top 50 Inspiring Workplaces 2026. It also promotes competitive pay and great working environments. These are the company's own claims rather than independent checks.
Roles fall into four groups on the recruitment site: stores, warehouse and transport, head office and area managers. Regional examples include warehouse operations, store accounts, finance and administration, and quality control. That mix shows how many different jobs sit behind a supermarket shelf, from driving and warehouse work to buying, IT and managing a group of stores.
