About AlixPartners

AlixPartners is a consulting firm that companies call when something big and urgent is going wrong or needs to change fast. Its work grew out of restructuring, which means helping a business in or near financial trouble to put itself back on a sound footing. It now covers turning companies around, improving how they run, handling disputes and investigations, and helping with mergers and data. The firm says it helps clients "navigate complexity and disruption, identify opportunities, and turn ideas into action" when it "really matters".

Jay Alix, a Detroit-area accountant, founded the firm in 1981 as Jay Alix & Associates in Southfield, Michigan, and it built its name advising firms in or near bankruptcy. Wikipedia gives its headquarters as New York City, with offices in more than 20 cities. The UK side matters a lot: Simon Freakley, Executive Chairman, came from AlixPartners UK, the firm took on the UK and European operations of Zolfo Cooper in 2015 and bought London-based THM Partners in 2023. The firm says it has more than 2,500 people worldwide, though Wikipedia's infobox gives 3,700 (the figures differ by source and date).

We did not find a short mission statement. The firm's about page lists values of commitment, professionalism, teamwork, common sense, personal respect and communication, and says it is collaborative and founded on integrity and respect, with an alumni network in more than 40 countries. These are the firm's own claims.

Wikipedia names well-known cases the firm has worked on, including General Motors, Kmart, Enron and Kodak in the US, and later Airbus, Cineworld and Arabtec. In February 2026 it was appointed joint administrator of the UK property finance firm Market Financial Solutions. It also works on investigations and compliance, and in 2021 partnered with Palantir to use its Foundry data platform.

The early-careers evidence we found is dated. A Business Analyst programme in the London Business Intelligence Centre, the team that finds opportunities, researches companies and helps write proposals, ran for 15 to 24 months before a move to the Paris office. The 2023 listing asked for a Master's degree, excellent English and French, a basic grasp of accounting and finance, and willingness to work outside normal hours at times; applications closed 12 September 2023. An earlier eight-week London internship (2021) asked for a Master's too and offered formal training, industry rotations and a career coach. The firm describes small, highly qualified teams working at pace, a hybrid mix of office, client site and remote working, and a path from analyst into senior consulting teams. No salary was listed.
