England's largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people, with care homes, retirement housing and apprenticeships.
Anchor, part of Anchor Hanover Group, provides housing and care for older people in England. This includes care homes, retirement housing, retirement villages and extra-care housing.
Its stated aim is to transform housing and care so older people can have homes they enjoy living in later in life. It says customers are central and should be able to choose how they live, and it describes itself as not-for-profit.
Anchor describes itself as the largest provider of its kind in England, with 120 care homes, over 35,500 socially rented homes and over 12,500 leasehold homes. A 2021 announcement gave almost 1,700 locations and over 9,000 colleagues. Apprenticeship pages mention sites such as Birmingham, Bradford (customer service centre), Uxbridge, Yateley and Bishopstoke.
Anchor says its apprenticeship programme is award-winning and welcomes people "from all walks of life". It lists Living Wage employer and Inclusive Employers gold status, and its Apprentice of the Year 2020 award. These are its own claims, so ask about them at interview.
Apprenticeships include adult care worker (Level 2, with progression to Level 3 and Level 5 for care home managers), catering, marketing and customer service. No previous experience or qualifications are needed, just "a caring nature and a genuine desire to improve the lives of older people", and apprentices earn while they learn with monthly reviews. Current vacancies are on apply.anchor.org.uk. Pay and ages were not found.
