A Belfast-based company that builds hardware-based security for machine-to-machine communications, including drones, vehicles and space systems, with quantum-secure approaches.
Angoka is a cybersecurity company that protects the messages that machines send to each other. Its tagline is "trust at every connection". Think of a fleet of drones, a driverless vehicle in a port or a satellite link: they all send commands and data, and someone has to be sure those messages are genuine and have not been tampered with. Angoka's products include UAV Mesh, a field-deployable drone network with satellite backhaul used for command and control; UGV Mesh, a secure network for remotely operating land vehicles, including over-the-air updates; and Space Mesh, a secure hybrid 5G and satellite network built around small, low-power terminals. Its markets are defence and space, smart mobility and industrial systems.
The company describes its aim as protecting the safety and resilience of smart cities and smart mobility with quantum-secure solutions. It has taken part in Innovate UK projects on quantum communications led by BT, and its site lists project names such as ReHawSec, 5G-SatCom ComSec, Skyway and STEP. We did not find a founding story, a values page or a longer mission statement, so we have not invented one. Its quantum link is as a security supplier working on quantum-safe communications, not as a builder of quantum computers or sensors.
Angoka's headquarters is in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a trade-body profile lists offices in London and The Hague. It was the first Northern Irish start-up selected for the NCSC Cyber Accelerator, run by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre, and it has also taken part in Tech Nation's Cyber 2.0 programme and Seraphim Space Camp. It is the only cybersecurity company selected for Zenzic's CAM Scale-Up Programme, which supports connected and self-driving vehicle businesses. Those are the company's own statements as listed by the ADS Group, the UK aerospace, defence, security and space trade body of which it is a member.
The ADS profile names Steve Berry as executive chairman, Yuri Andersson as chief executive, Shadi Razak as chief technology officer and Daniela Menzky as chief operating officer. The company website has sections for its story, leadership team, news and careers, and a logo bar of organisations it has worked with. We could not find first-party descriptions of its culture, and the staff numbers are not published in the pages we read.
A company like this employs network and security engineers, embedded software and hardware developers, people who run trials with customers such as ports, emergency services and defence organisations, and the business, project and marketing staff who tie it together. Computing, electronics, maths and engineering are the usual starting points. If you are drawn to the idea of keeping autonomous machines safe, it is a practical place to apply them. For the current shape of the business, check the company website.
