Apian

A London company founded by NHS doctors that arranges drone deliveries of urgent medical samples and supplies between hospitals and labs.

About Apian

Apian is a British healthcare logistics company that specialises in medical drone deliveries. It does not make the drones; instead it works out how to move things like blood samples quickly and safely between sites, then works with partners such as Wing, the drone operator, and with hospital trusts. The aim is to make healthcare logistics faster, more reliable and more sustainable.

Co-founder Dr Hammad Jeilani has said drones can "increase the responsiveness and resilience of healthcare logistics", helping clinicians to work more productively and patients to get care sooner. The company describes itself as founded by NHS doctors, which shapes how it thinks about the people who actually use the service.

Apian's London work began with a six-month pilot in autumn 2024 moving urgent pathology samples between Guy's Hospital and St Thomas' Hospital laboratory, with UK Civil Aviation Authority approval for the airspace. In January 2026 it was reported that the service would grow to south west London, with a route from the Nelson Health Centre in Merton to St George's Hospital in Tooting. Apian says the first phase moved more than 6,000 samples, that drones can cut transport time between sites by up to 85 per cent, and that carbon dioxide was cut by 98.4 per cent (company claims). It has also trialled medical drone deliveries in rural parts of the UK and previously worked with Wing in Dublin. Its Project Angel in the north east of England aimed to deliver medical packages to patients in the Northumbria Healthcare area, and a trade headline reports that Matternet is joining Wing in Apian's London hospital network.

Dr Jeilani has described a planned London drone network for on-demand, automated and sustainable deliveries. In January 2026, Dr Mike Eager, Apian's medical integration lead, said the new service would support pathology for more than 1.3 million patients. We did not find a description of staff culture, headcount or office address, so we cannot say more about day-to-day working.

We found no graduate scheme, internship or apprenticeship. Apian appears to hire doctors and people with logistics, operations and technology skills. Because the company is small and clinically led, the best next step is to check its website for roles and look at hospital logistics, pathology and drone operations as related entry points.
