AtkinsRealis in the UK is an engineering, design and project management business, built on the former Atkins. Wikipedia lists UK projects including Channel Tunnel engineering, Drax Power Station, the Port Talbot steelworks expansion, engineering design for the 2012 Olympics, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Glasgow Airport Rail Link and the Oxford Circus diagonal crossing. It also lists wing design work for the Airbus A350. The firm's Faithful+Gould project and cost management brand merged into AtkinsRealis in 2023.
Sir William Atkins founded W. S. Atkins & Partners in 1938 and the firm first set up offices in Westminster, London, focusing on civil and structural engineering. It joined the London Stock Exchange in 1996 and became just Atkins in 2002. In July 2017 the Canadian group SNC-Lavalin bought it, and in 2023 the combined group was renamed AtkinsRealis. We did not read a formal mission statement for the UK business, so we have not written one.
The UK presence is large. Wikipedia names the London headquarters at Nova North, and the company's own early-careers blog describes an office in Epsom, Surrey, with about 1,000 people on a site with two heritage-listed buildings and an on-site STEM lab, built for schoolchildren to see how classroom topics apply to real projects. The blog says Epsom is where Sir William Atkins started the business, while Wikipedia says the first offices were in Westminster, so those sources differ. Companies House lists several AtkinsRealis UK companies, which supports an active UK presence. We did not find a full UK office list or a UK headcount.
The Epsom blog, written by an associate acoustician, describes teams as diverse, friendly and collaborative, with approachable people from graduates to senior managers. It says managers support work-life balance, that flexible working is used by parents, reservists and others, and that staff may work from home or the London office. Sport and social events, such as barbecues and theatre trips, are mentioned. This is one employee's account on the firm's own site, not an independent review.
