The UK arm of Avison Young, a Canadian-founded commercial property adviser, whose UK business is built on the 2019 takeover of UK firm GVA and has offices in London and ten other cities.
Avison Young UK is a commercial property firm that advises occupiers, investors, landowners and developers across the property life cycle. Its London page lists capital markets and investment advice, central London office leasing and occupier representation, industrial and logistics advice, property management, building consultancy and project management, development, planning and regeneration, valuation, and research. It also lists sector expertise in healthcare, hotels, life sciences and retail.
The firm began in Canada. Wikipedia says it was formed in 1996 from the union of Graeme Young and Associates, founded in Alberta in 1978, and Avison and Associates, founded in Ontario in 1989. Its UK business comes mainly from February 2019, when it bought GVA, a UK-based property adviser, and the two combined under the Avison Young name. After the deal, Wikipedia says, the company had about 5,000 people in 120 offices across 20 countries. GVA therefore stands behind much of its UK history and people.
We could not find a mission or values statement in the pages we read. The London page says only that the team is invested in driving impact for occupiers and investors in the Greater South East, and it links to pages on ESG (environmental, social and governance work), wellness, governance and compliance. We have not invented a mission.
In the UK, the London office is at The Met, 24 Percy Street, W1T 2BS. Other offices listed are Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle. Search results also show it has moved its London headquarters and acquired the UK firm Wilkinson Williams, and it has made hires in national offices, capital markets and hotel capital markets in 2024 and later. We could not find a UK-only headcount.
A mixed advisory firm like this employs agents, valuers, surveyors, planners, project managers, researchers and analysts, building consultants, and finance, marketing and technology staff. Because it handles hotels, life sciences and logistics, people can specialise in a sector they find interesting. Maths, geography, economics, business studies and the sciences are all useful. Avison Young UK's website lists current roles. Its London page also links to teams dealing with governance and compliance, a reminder that a property firm needs people who keep it running safely as well as people who advise on deals.
