The UK radio and audio arm of Bauer Media Group, running Absolute Radio, Greatest Hits Radio, Hits Radio, KISS, Magic, Jazz FM, Planet Rock and Kerrang! Radio.
Bauer Media Audio UK is the UK radio and audio business of the German-owned Bauer Media Group. It describes itself as Europe's leading digital commercial radio broadcaster and says it runs more than 120 commercial local, national and digital stations in the UK. Its best-known brands include Absolute Radio, Greatest Hits Radio, Hits Radio, KISS, Magic, Jazz FM, Planet Rock, Kerrang! Radio and Heat Radio. Wikipedia says Greatest Hits Radio is a classic hits network of 44 stations on local FM and DAB, Hits Radio is a contemporary network of 25 stations, Absolute Radio runs decade-themed services, KISS is aimed at 15 to 34 year olds and Magic at 25 to 54 year olds.
The group's footer tagline is "enriching everyday life". The Bauer UK site links to a separate page on its purpose, mission and values, which we could not read, so we do not quote it here. In practice, the work is about giving listeners music, company and conversation every day, from the breakfast show on a local station to a jazz or classic rock channel on DAB.
In the UK, Bauer says it reaches over 23 million listeners a week. Its group history says the radio business grew from Emap's radio division, which Bauer bought in 2008. Over the years it added stations such as Jazz FM (2018) and, in 2019 and 2020, the Lincs FM Group and other local stations, so it now has stations across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Its headquarters is in Peterborough, with a London presence, and it also owns and co-owns DAB multiplexes that carry stations to listeners.
Bauer says it wants a workplace where diversity is valued, opportunities are open to all and people treat each other with respect. These are the company's own statements, so ask about them at interview. It also makes podcasts under its Rayo brand, such as Katherine Ryan's What's My Again and The Empire Film Podcast, so the people behind the scenes include presenters, producers, sales teams, engineers, marketers and digital specialists. Other Rayo shows named on the site include Pete Wicks' Man Made and Superscoreboard. Rayo itself launched in 2023 as a single app and website for Bauer's European radio and audio.
Roles in a radio group go well beyond the microphone. There are jobs in content and programming, news, audio production, advertising sales, marketing, data and technology, and running the transmission networks. If you like music, talk and storytelling, a good first step is to listen critically to a station you like and ask who makes each part happen. Bauer's website has Careers and Work Experience pages if you want to see what is on offer.
