About Boston Consulting Group

Boston Consulting Group, known as BCG, is a management consulting firm. In plain terms, businesses, governments and charities hire its teams when they face a big, difficult decision, such as how to grow, how to use artificial intelligence (AI), or how to change the way a whole organisation works. BCG says it helps organisations “bridge the gap between ambition and outcomes”. Its website says it has more than 100 offices in over 50 countries and about 33,500 employees. Its work covers 16 industries, from health care, energy and education to the public sector and travel.

BCG was founded in 1963 by Bruce Henderson, first as a unit inside the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company, and took the name Boston Consulting Group in 1968 (Wikipedia). Its headquarters is in the Seaport District of Boston, Massachusetts. BCG's own website says its approach is rooted in over 60 years of knowledge. In the UK, BCG London is the hub for early-careers recruitment, and its UK careers page points students to events and interviews there.

BCG describes its purpose as helping organisations bridge the gap between ambition and outcomes by combining strategic clarity with applied AI, aiming for stronger results, skills passed on to the client, and change that sticks. Its UK careers page also says it wants an environment where everyone feels respected and supported to thrive personally and professionally. Those are the firm's own statements. We did not find a separate list of company values on the pages we read.

BCG lists 20 areas of expertise, including AI, business transformation, climate change and sustainability, digital, technology and data, mergers and acquisitions, and risk management. Named parts of the firm include BCG X, which builds new products, services and businesses with large organisations (and is where technologists work alongside consultants), BCG BrightHouse, which helps organisations work out and live their purpose, a Public Sector practice that works with governments, and a Center for Customer Insight. It also publishes research and ideas through the BCG Institute and The CEO Agenda.

Day to day, a BCG consultant works in a small cross-functional team on a client problem, analyses data, builds recommendations, presents results to the client and helps put them into action. Much of the work happens at client sites. The UK Associate (graduate consultant) role is for final-year students or graduates with under two years of full-time experience; applications for the 2026 round ran from 9 September to 18 October 2026. An eight-week summer internship in July and August is for penultimate-year students, with applications expected from 1 January to 24 January 2027 and a possible full-time offer. BCG asks for a strong academic record, typically at least a 2:1, plus achievement outside your studies. The process is a profile and CV, a short numerical test, a final CV review, then case interviews with senior London consultants. Applicants with a PhD or medical degree follow the same route and are considered for Senior Associate. Staff networks include Elevate@BCG (socioeconomic diversity), Pride@BCG, Women@BCG and BOLD (African-Caribbean heritage). The page gives no salary, so check BCG before relying on any pay figure.
