A Cardiff Bay production group making factual, entertainment, drama and children's programmes for S4C, BBC, ITV and other broadcasters.
Boom is a Welsh television production group founded in 1994. It makes factual, factual entertainment, entertainment, drama and children's programmes. It says it produces over 400 hours of content a year for S4C, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and U&Dave.
Its site does not give a formal mission statement. What it does emphasise is storytelling and high production values, and it lists a Best Place to Work in TV award. Please treat that as the company's own claim.
The group is split into parts. Boom Cymru makes programmes for the Welsh broadcasters S4C, BBC Wales and ITV Wales. Boom works with UK network and international broadcasters. Boom Social makes content for social platforms. Boom Kids makes programmes for children from pre-school to age 13, and produces most of S4C's pre-school and children's programming with more than 50 full-time staff. Related group companies include Gorilla for post-production, Gorilla VFX for visual effects and BAIT Studio for motion graphics.
Boom is headquartered at Gloworks in Cardiff Bay, a building that houses two HD studios, a live gallery and post-production facilities. Its address is Gloworks, Heol Porth Teigr, Cardiff CF10 4GA. It says it has about 230 people working in Wales. It is part of ITV Studios, and still operates under the Boom name.
Having studios, edit suites, effects and motion graphics under one roof means a wide mix of jobs, from production and editing to animation, effects and social content. The company also works in Welsh and English, so Welsh language skills are valuable for much of its output. The company's job listings, including a Head of Production vacancy, show the kinds of roles it employs. The details above come from the company's own About page. It describes Boom Kids as making content for children from pre-school to age 13, and says it is the main supplier of pre-school and children's programmes to S4C. Because the group includes its own studios, a live gallery, post-production, visual effects and motion graphics, much of the work from filming to finishing can happen in one place in Cardiff Bay, which is useful to know if you are curious about how a programme is made from start to end. Its contact number is +44 29 2245 0000.
