Brainomix

An Oxford University spin-out using AI to read brain and lung scans. Its tools help doctors make faster, better treatment decisions for stroke and lung disease, including across the NHS.

About Brainomix

Brainomix is a medical AI company that creates AI-powered imaging biomarkers to enable "precision medicine for better treatment decisions". In plain terms, its software reads medical scans and helps doctors decide on the best treatment quickly, especially for stroke, where every minute matters.

It was founded in 2012 as a University of Oxford spin-out by leading academics, including Oxford Professor of Stroke Medicine Alastair Buchan. Its products include Brainomix 360 Stroke, which analyses CT and MRI brain scans, e-Lung for CT lung scans, and Vantage, a dashboard for networks of hospitals.

The company's own timeline shows how a university idea becomes a healthcare product. In 2016 it launched e-ASPECTS, which it calls the world's first fully automated AI imaging tool for stroke. In 2020 it received an NHS AI grant, leading to what it describes as the largest real-world evaluation of stroke AI, published in The Lancet Digital Health. National deployments followed in Hungary and Wales in 2021, and in 2023 the stroke product launched in the US. In 2024 e-Lung gained US FDA clearance, and a 2025 study reported a doubling of thrombectomy rates.

We did not find a headquarters or founders list beyond Professor Buchan on the page we read. Its news pages also mention partnerships with Oxford University and NHS trusts.

For young people, Brainomix shows how AI is helping the NHS and where regulation and clinical evidence matter. Careers include machine learning, software, clinical science, regulatory affairs and commercial roles. Check its careers page for current roles; early-careers programmes are not described. We have left out funding.
