The UK's largest gas distribution network, covering the North West, West Midlands, East of England and North London, with paid apprenticeships and a graduate programme.
Cadent describes itself as the UK's largest gas distribution network. It maintains the underground pipes that bring gas to about 11 million homes (2022 figure), runs the national gas emergency line for the industry and is working on introducing greener gases such as hydrogen.
Cadent says it looks for "the curiosity to think differently and the courage to embrace change" and that it is "passionate about recruiting, training, and developing a diverse workforce". These are quotes from its own press release.
Its network runs from Cumbria to North London and from the Welsh Borders to East Anglia. A 2024 news report says apprentice positions span the North West, Midlands, East of England, South Yorkshire and North London, with many in the North West.
A North West director is quoted saying "there's no limit on how far you can go" and that many senior leaders began as apprentices. Cadent has an Armed Forces Covenant Gold Award. Cadent was ranked 1st for apprentices' enjoyment of their role and 7th in the Top 50 Companies for Apprentices by The Job Crowd (2022), which is third-party but dated.
Apprenticeships are paid, with on-the-job training and a nationally recognised qualification, and run for two or four years. A 2024 report said Cadent planned more than 50 apprentices that year, starting on £23,728 with a van. The Business Graduate Programme has three six-month placements.
