About Callen-Lenz

Callen-Lenz is a UK engineering company that works with crewed and uncrewed aircraft. It designs, develops and manufactures drone platforms and avionics in-house, including the Koios VTOL S2 medium-sized drone and SkyCircuits3, a mission management system that lets an aircraft fly with little pilot workload. It describes four business strands: technical services, products, platforms and operational services. Customers include several UK government agencies and large companies, and it serves defence, security and commercial users. In 2021 the Ministry of Defence's science laboratory, Dstl, asked it to build and test a drone demonstrator for the TRED-H project, so a good part of its work is defence-related. It holds ISO 9001 and Cyber Essentials Plus certification.

It was founded in 2007 by Jonathan Webber as a technical consultancy for aviation research and development, and later built its own hardware and software. We did not find a mission statement. A job advert lists its values as innovation, integrity, collaboration and excellence. In July 2026 chief executive Matt Foster signed an agreement with Applied Intuition UK to explore using AI to make its autonomous aircraft more resilient and flexible, saying that "The future of autonomous systems lies not only in their ability to execute tasks."

The UK member profile on the ADS aerospace trade body says Callen-Lenz is a UK small and medium business based in Salisbury, Wiltshire, with all its systems made in the UK and most parts coming from UK suppliers. A job advert for a Software Team Lead is based at a Bristol city-centre office, about a 10-minute walk from Temple Meads station, with hybrid working.

The company describes its team as friendly, multi-disciplined and passionate, and says it is growing quickly as it expands into aerospace. Its staff include design engineers, test pilots and flight test engineers with experience of manned and unmanned aircraft. The job advert lists training and development opportunities and one reimbursed professional membership a year. These are the company's own claims.

We did not find a graduate scheme or apprenticeship. The advert says the team ranges from graduates to principal engineers, which suggests graduates are hired, but the role we saw asked for a 2:1 or better in an engineering or science subject and was a team-lead position, so it is not an entry job. Check its careers page for junior roles. The advert has no date, so treat it as indicative only.
