A UK home healthcare provider that uses technology and AI to deliver care at home. Its mission is to help people live longer, healthier lives in their own homes.
Cera is a UK home healthcare company. It provides care, nursing and related services to people in their own homes, using technology to keep carers informed and to spot problems early. It describes itself as Europe's largest provider of digital-first home healthcare, and says its technology is used daily by a community of 10,000 healthcare professionals. Its stated mission is to enable people to "live longer, healthier lives in their own homes".
Dr Ben Maruthappu, a doctor with experience in A&E and public health, co-founded Cera in November 2016. The company says he was concerned about avoidable hospital admissions and had arranged care for a family member himself. Wikipedia names him and Marek Sacha as founders, and gives London as its headquarters.
Technology is central to how Cera works. It says a team of technologists, data scientists and product engineers works with frontline carers and nurses, and that its platform uses data and machine learning to monitor clients' conditions and aim to respond to deterioration much faster than traditional methods. Cera also says it reduces carers' paperwork so they can spend more time with clients. Some performance claims about its AI have been reported in the media but are not independently verified, so we have not repeated them.
Its job pages present carer roles as a chance to train, learn and develop skills. For young people, Cera shows how AI is being used in health and social care, a sector with many entry-level routes. Careers include care and nursing, software and data roles, and operations. The pages we read did not describe a formal early-careers programme, so check Cera's jobs page.
