About Charles Tyrwhitt

Charles Tyrwhitt is a British menswear brand best known for shirts and ties. Its range now covers suits, knitwear, casualwear, shoes and accessories. It sells online, by mail and through shops, and customers can book in-store appointments. Its site promotes award-winning customer service and a six-month window to decide on a purchase.

Founder Nick Wheeler says he will "do anything to bring menswear to the fore". The company's own pages do not list formal values, though they show "Doing Things Properly" and "Our Beliefs" as navigation headings without content, so we cannot quote these. Its history page says the company wants to make top-quality menswear with timeless style and no compromise on quality, with customer service, competitive prices and a touch of British charm. It backs its products with a six-month no-questions-asked guarantee. Nick credits the staff for its success, and says the business has grown to over 1,000 staff, though a Wikipedia figure for 2022 is 614, so the number is unclear.

Wheeler started the business in 1986 from his room at Bristol University, selling shirts by mail. He spent £99 on 5,000 leaflets and £199 on an Amstrad word processor. The name comes from his middle names. The first shop opened on Jermyn Street in London in 1997. The company says it has 50 stores, and its registered office is in Bankside, London SE1. It won the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2016 and a Feefo Platinum Trusted Service Award.

Wikipedia says Greg Hodder became its first chief executive in 2008, and Luke Kingsnorth has been chief executive since April 2019. Wheeler holds an OBE and is married to Chrissie Rucker, founder of The White Company. His story also includes trying photography, Christmas trees and bespoke shoes before the shirt business worked. That story is the company's own telling.

Roles at a menswear retailer cover shop and styling teams, product design and sourcing, buying and merchandising, e-commerce, marketing and customer service, and warehouse and logistics. We did not find the distribution centre location or a current UK headcount. Check Charles Tyrwhitt's careers pages for current opportunities. Its history page describes a flagship shop on Jermyn Street and shops across the UK, with international shops in New York, Paris, Washington DC and Chicago, and a warm, personal tone in which the owner invites customers to email him directly.
