Chubb UK

The UK arm of Chubb, the global property and casualty insurer, based at 40 Leadenhall Street in London with eight UK offices serving businesses, brokers and families.

About Chubb UK

Chubb is a large insurer, and its UK business sells cover to companies, to wealthy families and to the brokers who arrange insurance for them. Its UK site lists commercial lines such as property, casualty, management liability, environmental, cyber and terrorism cover, and personal lines such as home and contents, specialist and classic car, and jewellery and fine art. It also runs Chubb Global Markets and a reinsurance arm, and offers risk engineering and cyber services to its customers. An insurer takes on risk in return for a payment, then pays out when something goes wrong.

Chubb's history stretches back a long way. Its own history page says Thomas Caldecot Chubb and his son Percy opened a marine underwriting business in New York in 1882, which became Chubb & Son. The modern group was formed in 2016 when ACE, an insurer set up in 1985 to cover big liability risks, bought the Chubb Corporation and took its name. Chubb's UK page sums up its approach as assessing, assuming and managing risk "with insight and discipline", and describes a culture of "precise and passionate craftsmanship" and keeping promises. Those are the company's own words.

Chubb's UK site says it has eight offices in the UK, including its European headquarters in London. The UK business address is 40 Leadenhall Street, London EC3A 2BJ, which is also the registered office of Chubb Underwriting Agencies Limited, the managing agent for its Lloyd's syndicate 2488. The site does not list the other seven locations, so check Chubb's own locations page. Its UK business holds corporate Chartered status from the Chartered Insurance Institute, a professional body for the industry. Group-wide, Chubb says it employs around 45,000 people in 54 countries and territories, and we did not find a UK-only headcount.

The UK site says "our people make the difference. Every time", and says culture is defined by who the company is, the behaviours it expects and what it rewards. That is Chubb describing itself, not an outside review. The company also says good corporate citizenship matters, listing excellence, integrity, inclusion and opportunity, protecting the planet and supporting communities. It publishes gender pay gap reports and a modern slavery statement for UK readers who want to look deeper.

A big insurer needs far more than salespeople. A job-board profile for the London office shows roles in artificial intelligence and engineering, analytics, portfolio insights for commercial insurance, multinational operations, strategic partnerships and account management for consumer lines. Elsewhere in the business there will be underwriters, claims handlers, risk engineers, actuaries and cyber specialists. If you like data, problem-solving, languages or working with clients, there are plenty of routes in. Chubb's site also links to a leadership page for the UK and EMEA, which is a good place to see who runs the business.
