A London-based same-day courier company with a UK network of service centres, delivering urgent parcels and documents by bike, van and car, and by air.
CitySprint is a same-day courier and logistics company. Its website describes it as the UK's leading same-day distribution network, offering same-day courier work, same-day logistics in the UK and abroad, and overnight delivery. It also runs specialist brands: On the dot for consumer delivery, CitySprint Health for healthcare, CitySprint Office for print, post and fulfilment, Transworld for UK overnight and international delivery, and CityBags for luggage repatriation. Customers can book and track a courier online and through the free MyCourier app.
According to Wikipedia, the brand launched in 1999 as part of DMS Corporation and was incorporated in 2000. A management buyout led by Andrew Bernard in 2001 made it an independent same-day courier. It launched its own operating platform, CityTrak, in 2003, introduced real-time GPS tracking for customers in 2009, and in 2018 became the first courier company to use a hydrogen van for deliveries. It has bought several regional couriers since 2010. Wikipedia lists it as part of DPD Group today. We did not find a mission statement on the pages we read.
CitySprint's own website says it runs a wholly owned network of more than 25 service centres across major mainland UK cities and towns, and claims that over 87% of the UK population can be reached within 60 minutes. Wikipedia reported 35 service centres in 2019. Its site lists offices in London (its head office), Birmingham and Shoreditch. The company says its fleet includes over 3,000 professional couriers with security ID and GPS-enabled branded vehicles. Wikipedia gave more than 5,000 self-employed couriers in 2019, so the numbers depend on date and definition.
On the jobs-board site Built In, CitySprint is listed with about 800 employees. The company says it holds ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. Wikipedia notes that in 2017 an employment tribunal found one CitySprint courier to be a worker rather than self-employed, and that the company later had couriers sign new contracts, which a union criticised. The same-day courier model, where many couriers are self-employed, has been debated across the industry, and it is worth reading widely about it. We did not find a first-party description of the company culture.
Jobs include couriers on bikes, motorbikes and vans, as well as drivers for larger vehicles. In the service centres, controllers plan and dispatch jobs as they come in, and customer service teams look after booking and tracking. The health and office brands need account managers and specialist drivers for sensitive items such as medical samples. Technology staff look after the CityTrak platform and the app. Finance, sales and marketing teams support the network. If you like fast-paced work with a clear daily rhythm, same-day delivery could suit you.
