Codat

A London company whose software lets banks, lenders and finance apps connect to small businesses' accounting and commerce data. It lists London roles.

About Codat

Codat provides the technology that lets financial and software companies connect to a small business's accounting, banking and sales data. If a lender wants to check a company's accounts in minutes, or a payments app wants to match sales to a business's books automatically, Codat's API can supply that data. (An API is a standard way for two computer systems to talk to each other.) One interviewer described it as "a universal API for small business data".

Codat was founded in 2017 in London. A 2020 article names three founders: Peter Lord (chief executive), Alex Cardona (chief operating officer) and David Hoare (chief technology officer), who had previously worked together at what is now MarketFinance. Peter Lord has said he started the company because he could not find a product like it on the market and decided to build one to solve that problem. Its careers page lists a central London office in Clerkenwell, with a roof terrace.

Codat says its mission is "to make life easier for small businesses by enabling their systems and services to work together seamlessly". Peter Lord has described the goal as becoming the "go-to infrastructure for the small business economy to share data" and creating "seamless experiences" for small businesses. Its careers page adds the values of building technology that solves real problems for real businesses, pushing and enabling teammates to excel, and staying driven toward one clearly stated goal.

Its products include Sync for Commerce, which helps payments providers connect to merchants' accounting platforms, and an underwriting and monitoring API that gives lenders data to make decisions. Customers named in 2020 coverage include iZettle, Experian and two of the top four UK banks, along with lenders, corporate card providers and forecasting tools. Codat also publishes developer documentation and integrations so other companies can build on its platform.

Codat's careers page describes a culture of respect, passion and collaboration, with transparency and open communication, and room to learn from your own mistakes. These are the company's own claims. Benefits listed include share options, 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays, flexible working, enhanced parental leave and weekly in-office yoga. Roles shown on the page include Solutions Engineer, Commercial Manager and Software Engineer. We did not find an early-careers or graduate scheme, and the page says Codat was not offering visa sponsorship, so check the careers page for current openings.
