Constructive Bio

A Cambridge synthetic genomics company that designs whole custom genomes to turn living cells into producers of new medicines and materials.

About Constructive Bio

Constructive Bio is a synthetic genomics company. It designs whole custom genomes and engineers cells so they can make new molecules, with products aimed at drug manufacturing and discovery and at sustainable biomaterials.

Chief executive Ola Wlodek has said "Synthetic genomics is redefining how we harness biology". Founder Professor Jason Chin says it is "the only company that can turn living cells into sustainable biofactories" (company claim). A job posting adds that it wants to explore chemical space that natural biology has not reached.

It spun out of Professor Chin's lab at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and is based in Whittlesford, near Cambridge, UK. A June 2026 job posting shows it is still recruiting.

We did not find a headcount or values page. The job posting looks for people who are proactive and detail-oriented.

This is one of the clearer entry routes. A posting for two Research Technicians in engineered translation and synthetic genomics, closing 12 June 2026 (as at 2026), asks for a solid grounding in molecular biology and offers hands-on experience, with salary listed as competitive.
