About Creature London

Creature (also called Creature of London) is an advertising and creative agency based in London. Its work has ranged from television advertising to theatre and comedy, and its named clients include Moonpig, Dunelm, ClearScore, Atom Bank, Tetley, Gatwick Airport and the British Red Cross. A Campaign article by its leaders says that creative companies have a duty to produce work for themselves as well as for clients.

Creature calls its approach "intelligent misbehaviour": breaking conventions on purpose to get people to pay attention. It says it spends time defining the problem before looking for an answer, works with clients throughout rather than saving up a big reveal, and uses outside specialists for production. Its own projects have included a Waterloo vaults show nominated for an Olivier Award and a Green Party campaign that drew over 20 million views.

The agency was founded in Shoreditch, London, in 2011 by Dan Shute (Cullen-Shute), Ben Middleton, Stu Outhwaite and Andrew Gibson, as a UK business that began as the London arm of a Seattle agency. ACQUIRED: by Candid (2022). It operates as an autonomous agency in that group, and the release says Dan Cullen-Shute leads Creature London and its Amsterdam sister agency. London remains its home, with a listed address on Curtain Road in Shoreditch.

A 2018 profile described a lively studio: work pinned on a board for open feedback, a "Feed The Beast" monthly speaker series, "Creature Creates" support for staff side projects, weekly baking and Monday yoga, plus a rule that nobody should be working late unless necessary. It was living-wage accredited and ran a Placement Poverty Pledge, paying work-placement staff the London Living Wage for one to three months, with a daily freelance rate for those kept on. The profile also lists benefits such as health insurance, family leave cover and a small daily scheme towards massages or gym access. These are details reported by the interviewer and may have changed.

Its leaders have described the agency as one that makes things for itself as well as for clients, including a comedy show with a 30-person choir and a 1990s-style board game made in two weeks for a snap election. Teams at Creature include strategists, account people, creative directors and creatives, with a creative liaison officer who works with outside talent. If you are interested in making funny, memorable ads, or in the producing, planning and client side behind them, an agency of this kind covers all of those jobs under one roof.
