A Weybridge-based UK housebuilder, founded in 1963, that builds mid-premium homes and places across the south of England, the Midlands and Yorkshire.
Crest Nicholson is a UK housebuilder. It designs, builds and sells homes, and plans whole neighbourhoods, which it calls placemaking. Its corporate website says it focuses on mid-premium homes, on good design, sustainability and biodiversity, and on working to cut carbon emissions and waste. It also has a strategic land team that secures planning permission for future sites and a Special Projects team that carries out fire safety checks and remedial works on older buildings. It completed 1,873 homes in the year to 31 October 2024, according to Wikipedia.
Bryan Skinner founded the company in 1963 as Crest Homes, and it floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1968. It became Crest Nicholson after acquiring the yacht maker Camper and Nicholsons in 1972. Two of its early housing managers, Tony Pidgley and Jim Farrer, left in 1975 to start Berkeley Homes, now one of the country's biggest builders. The company says its purpose is to have a lasting and positive impact on people's lives, creating spaces where people can live, grow and thrive. Its stated priorities include customer focus, quality and design, sustainability, and ethical conduct. It has also said it aims for net zero across its value chain by 2045.
Crest Nicholson's head office is in Weybridge, Surrey. It builds mainly in the south of England and the Midlands, organised into five divisions: South West, South, Eastern, Midlands and Yorkshire. We did not find a full list of divisional office locations. Its corporate site shows badges including FTSE4Good, the Armed Forces Covenant Silver Award, the New Homes Quality Code and the Home Builders Federation five-star customer rating. The most recent headcount we found was 966 people in 2020, so that is out of date. The company announced cost savings and a divisional office closure in November 2025, so its shape may have changed since.
On culture, its careers page describes an open, welcoming culture where all voices are heard, with an ambition to be the best in the industry, and says it encourages professional, personal and technical development and offers support for financial, physical and emotional wellbeing. These are the company's own words and have not been checked independently.
A housebuilder employs many kinds of people: site managers and construction managers, land and planning specialists, technical and design teams, quantity surveyors, buyers, sales and marketing staff, customer care teams, health and safety advisers, and finance and human resources staff. Students who like maths, geography, design, technology or working with people can all see where they would fit in a company that turns fields and old sites into places to live.
