About Culina Group

Culina Group is a British logistics company that specialises in food and drink. Its businesses cover temperature-controlled and ambient (room temperature) warehousing, haulage, contract packing and fulfilment. Wikipedia lists its subsidiaries as Culina Logistics, Fowler Welch, Stobart, Stobart Europe and Great Bear. A 2018 article described six business units and said that clients included well-known supermarkets such as Tesco and Sainsbury's, served through businesses such as Warrens Group, a specialist in baked goods storage and distribution.

The group started in 1994 as a haulage business in Market Drayton, Shropshire, founded by Thomas van Mourik. It grew by combining with Bayliss Transport in 2008, buying Great Bear Distribution in 2016, forming a joint venture with Warren Warehousing Group in 2018, buying Robsons of Spalding in 2018, Fowler Welch from Dart Group in 2020, and in 2021 the holding company of the Eddie Stobart group. In April 2024 Stobart Europe bought a German automotive logistics firm. We did not find a mission statement, but a 2018 article said sustainability was a priority, with new vehicles bought under a Let's Go Green slogan and route planning used to cut emissions.

Culina's headquarters is in Market Drayton, Shropshire. Wikipedia says it has about 22,000 employees and serves the UK and Ireland, and it is wholly owned by the Müller group. The 2018 article, which is dated, said the group had nearly 60 depots covering over eight million square feet, with sites including a 225,000 square foot warehouse in Telford, a 7.5-acre temperature-controlled site off the M1 and five Warrens Group units. Current site numbers will be different, and we have not confirmed them.

We did not find a culture statement or staff stories for Culina in the pages we read. The group is led by Liam McElroy as group chief executive and Fabian Koehler as deputy group chief executive, according to Wikipedia. Because it combines several well-known names, including Fowler Welch and Stobart, people may work for one of those brands rather than for the Culina name itself.

Food logistics is a fast-moving and varied area to work in. Roles include drivers, warehouse operatives and shift managers; transport planners who schedule deliveries so that fresh food arrives on time; food safety and quality specialists; engineers who look after refrigeration and vehicles; customer account managers; and finance, IT and human resources staff. If you like food, practical operations or the idea of keeping supermarket shelves stocked, this can be a satisfying area. Culina's website lists current vacancies.
