Currys

The UK's largest specialist electricals retailer, selling tech and appliances in stores and online and running a large repair and recycling operation from Newark.

About Currys

Currys sells TVs, laptops, phones, white goods and small appliances in stores and online across the UK and Ireland. It also gives advice and set-up help, installs products, offers Care and Repair plans, a trade-in service and a flexpay credit account. Its own brands include Logik and Sandstrom.

The Currys name goes back to 1884, when Henry Curry started making bicycles in Leicester. Over time the business moved into radios, televisions and white goods, and Dixons bought it in 1984. After the Dixons Carphone merger in 2014, the group renamed itself Currys plc in 2021, and its Currys PC World stores became simply Currys that October. The company is based in Newark-on-Trent.

We did not find a formal mission statement, but Currys makes several promises on its website. These include a price promise to match eligible UK prices, a seven day fix promise on eligible products and three years of replacements on many items priced between 20 and 150 pounds. It says its repair team of around 1,000 runs one of Europe's largest mixed electrical repair centres, repairing over a million products a year, including tech bought elsewhere. It also describes itself as the UK's largest retail recycler of electrical waste. These are the company's own claims.

Currys has shops across the UK, and job listings point to sites at Newark, including repair technician and stock controller roles, with a distribution centre invested in there. The group also runs Currys Business and partner services. We did not find a verified UK store or staff count on the pages we read, so please check the Currys careers site.

People work as store advisers, delivery and installation teams, repair technicians, contact centre advisers, warehouse and logistics staff, and in head office teams such as buying, online, technology, finance and marketing. A repair technician role shows there are practical technical jobs as well as sales ones. We did not find a published culture statement. Currys also sells through ShopLive, a video service where advisers help shoppers remotely, and runs Order and Collect and home delivery, so there are customer-facing roles that are not in a shop. Its Instant Replacement and trade-in offers also need teams working on products, pricing and customer care. Check the Currys careers site for current roles.
