Disturbia

A fashion and lifestyle brand founded in 2003 in the North East of England, now with studios in London and Newcastle, selling dark romantic, vegan clothing through its own websites.

About Disturbia

Disturbia is a UK fashion and lifestyle brand with a dark, romantic style, rich fabrics, detailed craftsmanship and unusual prints. It describes its story as a "darkly romantic fable". An in-house team designs the clothes and a small group of manufacturing partners makes them. It sells only through its own websites, disturbia.co.uk and disturbia.us, not through wholesalers or third-party shops. The Sunday Times Hundred listed it in 2024 as a fast-growing womenswear retailer based in Northumberland.

The brand was founded in 2003 by two fashion and photography graduates, Francis and Helen. Its mission, in its own words, is to inspire people who want to stand out, with inclusivity, community and a firm rejection of discrimination at its centre. It says its clothes use vegan materials (no fur or leather) and recycled fabrics, that packaging is compostable, that it plants trees through Ecologi, and that it favours sea shipping. It also reports donations to Amnesty International, Save the Children and the British Heart Foundation.

Disturbia says it has two homes: its roots in Northumberland, in the North East of England, and a studio in central London, with a further space in East London. Its About page gives headquarters in London and Newcastle, and warehouses in the UK, the Netherlands and the US. The company says it works to create opportunities outside the capital, especially in the North East, and it says it works with local universities on student pathways.

The company's people page describes a creative collective of more than sixty people, mostly women, from a mix of nationalities and cultures, working across two sites with a hybrid model. It mentions snacks, a Thursday beer bell and playlists inspired by its community, and a core internal value of "Belong", backed by fair recruitment and equal opportunity. These are the company's own descriptions and we have not verified them independently.

Roles named by the company include design, buying, e-commerce, customer experience, finance and logistics, with an in-house logistics team that manages warehousing across the UK, US and EU. If you are interested in alternative fashion, Disturbia shows that a brand can be built from outside London and still be sold worldwide. Its website has a careers page for current opportunities.
