About dunnhumby

dunnhumby is a customer data science company. It helps large shops and brands understand what their customers want, using data from things like loyalty cards. Its services include data consultancy, customer engagement, and advice on prices and promotions. Its jobs page names clients such as Tesco, Coca-Cola, Nestle, Unilever and Metro, and says it employs nearly 2,500 people around the world.

It was founded in 1989 by a husband-and-wife team, Clive Humby and Edwina Dunn, who started the company at their home in Chiswick, west London. It helped create Tesco's Clubcard loyalty scheme. Tesco bought a 53% stake in 2001 and later bought the rest, so it is now part of Tesco. Its head office is in Hammersmith, London.

We did not find a formal mission statement. Its jobs page says 'We won't just meet your expectations. We'll defy them.' and describes five employee groups covering gender, sexual orientation, multiculturalism, mental health and wellbeing, and family.

For young people, the Associate Data Scientist graduate programme is in London. It lasts 12 months with two rotations, one in Applied Data Science (running projects to find insights) and one in Data Science Engineering (building science products and software). It asks for a 2:1 or equivalent in a STEM or numerate subject such as engineering, statistics, maths, computer science, chemistry, physics or economics, plus good communication skills. We read the 2026 programme page, so check dunnhumby's careers site for the current round.
