A UK climate action company, founded in 2019 and based in Bristol, that lets individuals and businesses fund tree planting and verified carbon reduction projects.
Ecologi is a company that makes it easy for people and businesses to put money into climate action. Customers can subscribe monthly or buy one-off, and Ecologi uses that money to fund tree planting and other projects, such as renewable energy and cleaner cookstoves, that avoid or remove greenhouse gases. It says it supports carbon reduction projects certified at the top level by standards such as Gold Standard and Verified Carbon Standard. Its tools include a virtual forest profile that shows what each customer has funded, a public impact and operations ledger, and retirement certificates. It has also offered a free carbon footprint calculator for small businesses.
Ecologi was launched in 2019. Its co-founder and chief executive, Elliot Coad, has said the idea came to him on his commute, when he wondered what his coffee money could do for the climate if spent differently. Ecologi calls itself "the platform for collective climate action" and describes its mission as to "inspire and empower businesses to accelerate global action on climate", helping them measure, reduce and fund climate action. An earlier interview gave its target as helping to cut half of the world's projected greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. It is certified as a B Corp.
Several sources describe Ecologi as Bristol-based, and say it began with Bristol environmentalists who felt that most people could not do enough about the climate crisis alone. A Built In profile lists a Bristol, England base and 102 employees, though the same listing is contradictory about working on site. The company's UK footprint also includes customers such as the BBC, BAFTA and Lloyds Bank, named in a 2022 interview. We did not find an office address.
Ecologi says it ranks in the top 5% of B Corps globally for governance and for environment, and it was named to LinkedIn's Top 15 Startups of the Year in 2022. These are the company's own claims. The pages we read did not describe its culture, values or team structure. It describes its community as more than 19,000 businesses and 40,000 members, and says it had funded over 60 million trees. Those figures are its own and are dated.
Ecologi's job boards list roles in design, engineering and product, because it runs an online platform, alongside climate project specialists who assess the quality of projects, customer and partnership teams, and marketing and operations colleagues. If you are interested in climate action and technology, subjects such as environmental science, computing, design, business and data would all be relevant. Check the company's own website for current vacancies.
