A FTSE 100 sports betting and gaming group that owns Ladbrokes, Coral, Gala and Foxy, with its UK headquarters in London and sites in Gateshead, Nottingham and Oldham.
Entain is one of the world's largest sports betting and gaming groups. In the UK it is best known for Ladbrokes and Coral, with betting shops across the country, plus online sports betting, casino and bingo brands such as Gala and Foxy and the poker brand partypoker. It also supplies the technology behind BetMGM in the United States. The group changed its name from GVC Holdings to Entain in December 2020, although some of its brands date back to the 1880s. Its brands include bwin and Foxy as well as Ladbrokes, Coral and Gala, and it says it has more than 25 in total across 19 countries.
The annual report for 2024 sets out its mission as delivering "the most entertaining customer experience, supported by market-leading player protection". It lists four values: Do What's Right, Go Beyond, Keep it Simple and Win Together. The company says it aims to be a leading player in global sports betting and gaming, and it publishes work on safer gambling, including its ARC tool, which monitors accounts for signs of harm.
Entain says it has about 2,400 shops in its UK estate. A job-site profile lists UK offices in London (head office), Gateshead, Nottingham and Oldham. The group employs about 30,000 people worldwide, though we did not find a UK-only headcount. Entain is UK tax resident and listed on the London Stock Exchange, and its Entain Foundation funds grassroots sport through an initiative called Pitching In.
In its 2024 report Entain says colleague engagement was 77% and that it was named among LinkedIn's Top 20 UK Best Companies to Work For. These are the company's own claims. It describes its culture as one that wants to "shatter barriers" and unite people from different backgrounds, with the line "When we win, we win together". It has also launched a programme called Your Goals and an employer value proposition for colleagues. The group says it aims to make Entain a strong place to work for all its people, with wellbeing programmes and a Big Six compliance training programme that reached 93% completion.
A group like this employs a wide range of people: data analysts, software engineers, designers, marketing and brand teams, customer support, compliance and safer gambling specialists, and shop teams in towns and cities across the UK. Because betting is a regulated industry, a lot of the work involves rules, safety and fairness as well as entertainment. That makes it a good place to see how technology, data and responsibility fit together in a consumer business.
