A Nottingham-based business messaging company, started in 2001, that helps organisations send text, WhatsApp, email and voice messages to customers and now part of the Commify group.
Esendex helps organisations message their customers. Its platform sends SMS texts, WhatsApp messages, RCS messages (a richer kind of text), email and voice messages, and lets companies build simple online journeys such as appointment reminders or payment links. It also provides connections for developers (APIs), reseller programmes and managed services. The company says it has more than 25 years of experience, over 50,000 customers and sends more than 5 billion messages a year. These figures are from its own site, which gives a different customer figure in another place.
Esendex says it began in the UK in 2001 with a focus on building a high-quality text message service. Later it grew through acquisitions under the Commify group, adding teams in Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Ireland and then in Australia and the US, and in 2025 it launched a new cloud platform to bring its products together. Its stated mission is to make customer communication simple by combining a platform with human support. In 2021, chief executive Richard Hanscott said that over 20 years the company had "really helped to shape what it means to provide excellent customer communications".
Esendex's headquarters and registered office are in Nottingham. A June 2021 regional news article said it planned to create 30 jobs in Nottingham as it expanded into Italy, and that it then employed 260 people worldwide. Its own site describes the team as "Homegrown here in Nottingham". We did not find other UK offices, and the 2021 headcount is dated.
Esendex presents itself as a partner rather than just a supplier. Its site stresses local roots, simple set-up and documentation, a unified and secure platform and ISO 27001 security certification, and it points out that customers can phone its staff for help. These are the company's statements. We did not find staff stories, so we cannot say how this feels from inside.
The 2021 hiring plans mentioned product owners, an infrastructure manager, senior developers and site reliability engineers, who keep the systems running. Beyond engineering, a company like this employs customer support and account teams, sales and partner managers, compliance and security specialists, marketing and finance staff. If you like technology that people use every day without noticing it, or you enjoy helping customers solve problems, this is the kind of company where both interests are used.
