About evoke (William Hill, 888)

Evoke plc, formerly 888 Holdings, runs online gaming and betting brands including 888casino, 888sport, 888poker, Mr Green and William Hill. Through William Hill it also owns a chain of more than 1,400 betting shops in the UK, which came with its 2022 acquisition of the William Hill group's UK assets. It sells itself as a multi-brand operator. 888casino dates from 1997, 888poker launched in 2002 and 888sport in 2008.

The company began in 1997 as Virtual Holdings, set up by the Israeli entrepreneurs Avi and Aaron Shaked and Shay and Ron Ben-Yitzhak. Its administrative centre moved from Antigua to Gibraltar in 2003, and it joined the London Stock Exchange in 2005. When it announced its change of name to evoke in 2024, it said it aims to "make life more interesting by delighting players with world-class betting and gaming experiences".

In the UK, Wikipedia lists evoke offices in London and Leeds, and the headquarters is in Gibraltar. It also has satellite offices in Bucharest, Ceuta, Malta, Sofia and Tel Aviv. The company reports about 10,617 employees in 2025 across the group, though we did not find a UK-only count. The betting shops make it highly visible on British high streets, where William Hill is one of the best-known names in the sector. The company also sold its bingo brands, such as Wink Bingo, in 2022 and left the United States online market in 2024.

Evoke has faced regulatory fines in the UK for failures on anti-money laundering and social responsibility, and the company has since had to focus heavily on getting those basics right. That means jobs in compliance, safer gambling, risk and data are important across the group. We did not find a culture description on the pages we could read, so ask about team style and working patterns when you apply.

The business needs shop colleagues, area managers, traders who set betting odds, software engineers, data analysts, marketers, customer service staff and compliance professionals. Corporate news in 2025 and 2026 suggests the group's shape may change, with reports that parts of the business were being considered for sale or merger, so check current status of the brand you want to work for. William Hill shops in particular offer jobs in towns and cities nationwide.
