An Oxfordshire company making lightweight electric motors and controllers for electric aircraft, air taxis and drones.
Evolito designs and builds electric propulsion systems for aircraft. Its main products are axial-flux electric motors, which are flat, light and powerful, and the controllers that drive them, built to the very high safety standard needed for flying. They are intended for vertical take-off air taxis, electric helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and uncrewed aircraft. Evolito also bought Electroflight, a Cheltenham aerospace battery company, which became a wholly owned subsidiary.
Evolito says its mission is to accelerate the adoption of electric flight. Its managing director at launch, Gareth Morris, said in 2021, "We're building the future of electric flight with motors that have the highest power and torque densities in class." The motors are sold under the names YASA P400 and YASA 750 in the launch announcement, with more products planned. The company also claims its motors are very efficient and use much less copper, iron and magnet material than rivals, though those are its own claims.
Evolito was spun out of YASA, an electric motor maker that is now owned by Mercedes-Benz, to take the technology into aerospace. It began in Kidlington near Oxford and moved in 2022 into a 38,000 square foot site at Catalyst Bicester in Oxfordshire, becoming the first company to lease there. Its Electroflight subsidiary is in Cheltenham, and the Electroflight team worked on the record-breaking Spirit of Innovation electric aircraft. A 2026 recruitment listing places its jobs in Oxfordshire, so it is still hiring. The Catalyst Bicester development where it is based is planned to hold space for up to 1,750 jobs in total.
We did not find a culture or values page. An industrial placement advert describes the company as one of the UK's fastest-growing private technology companies and offers mentoring and development support, real project ownership, 30 days of annual leave and a competitive salary. Chief commercial officer Ajay Lukha was named in the Electroflight announcement. These descriptions are the company's own.
Evolito has a clear early-careers route. It is advertising a 12-month Software Engineering Industrial Placement for students whose degree includes a placement year, in subjects such as software engineering, electrical or electronic engineering or computer science. The work includes writing and testing safety-critical embedded software for motor controllers, and applicants need good knowledge of C or Python. The application deadline was 9 November 2026, with interviews from December 2026 to January 2027. We did not find a graduate scheme or apprenticeship.
