A global data and credit-information company, headquartered in Dublin, with its main UK base in Nottingham. It runs a two-year graduate programme for data analysts.
Experian is a data and analytics company. Wikipedia describes it as a multinational data broker and consumer credit reporting company. In plain terms, it collects and organises information about how people and businesses handle money, so lenders can decide who to lend to, and so people can check their own credit report (a record of your borrowing and repayments). It also provides tools that help businesses make decisions with data, marketing help and fraud prevention. It has about 21,700 employees (2026) and one of its listed UK locations is Nottingham, England.
Its roots are old. Experian's own history page traces credit information back to London merchants in 1826, and to Universal Stores, founded in Manchester by Abraham Rose in 1900, whose customer data later gave rise to its UK operations. Wikipedia says Credit Data Corporation was bought by TRW in 1968; the UK and US businesses were combined under the Experian name in 1996; and in 2006 Experian separated from the retailer Great Universal Stores (GUS) and listed on the London Stock Exchange. Its head office is in Dublin, Ireland.
Experian's purpose, in its own words, is to "create a better tomorrow", powering opportunities for people, businesses and society. A graduate listing describes it as a global data and analytics company that uses data to help people, businesses and society.
Well-known products include Mosaic, a tool that groups people into types for marketing. Experian Boost, launched in 2019, lets people add positive payment history, such as bills, to their credit file. Its history page also lists the Ascend Platform (data, analytics and fraud-prevention tools, 2023), Experian Smart Money and the Experian Insurance Marketplace (both 2024). It helps banks and other lenders decide who to lend to, and helps spot fraud.
Experian describes itself as large, global and complex, and says it rewards curiosity and promotes growth. Its early-careers page describes colleagues as "smart, passionate people who encourage each other", which is the company's own claim. UK routes include Year in Industry placements for students in their penultimate year (12 to 13 months from July, working towards at least a 2:2, as at 2026), a Software Engineer Degree Apprenticeship in Nottingham (a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions with Nottingham Trent University, starting salary £24,650, 120 UCAS points from three A levels including maths, science or IT, September 2026 start, closed 14 February), and two-year graduate programmes in analytics, product management, IT and business. Graduate roles are permanent from day one and are open to any degree, though the 2026 Graduate Data Analyst role in Nottingham started at £32,000 and asked for at least a 2:2 in a maths-heavy degree (closed 26 January 2026). None of these roles could sponsor visas. Check the careers site for the next rounds.
