About FD Technologies

FD Technologies is a software and services company. Its KX technology gives high-performance analytics for real-time decisions on very large amounts of data, and its First Derivative arm provides consulting and managed services to capital markets clients, including major banks. Graduates get exposure to the kdb+ database and its q language.

We did not find a formal mission statement. FD describes itself as a group of 'data-driven businesses' and talks about helping organisations 'drive organisations forward'.

The company started in Newry, Northern Ireland in 1996, when founder Brian Conlon began it from his mother's spare bedroom. Its registered address is 37 Hill Street, Newry, and its Newry offices are named after Conlon. A news report put staff at more than 2,400 worldwide; we did not confirm a current number.

FD stresses lifelong learning: training, outside accreditations and a mentor programme where senior colleagues coach others. It also mentions internal networks, social committees and charity work.

Its graduate role asks for a 2.1 degree, ideally in computing, maths, statistics, data science, physics, engineering or a similar subject, and a commitment to a two-year training period leading to a permanent job.
