A Belfast-based full fibre broadband company, created in Northern Ireland, that has expanded into Cumbria and the North East of England.
Fibrus is a full fibre broadband company that was created in Northern Ireland to bring fibre-to-the-premises broadband to homes and businesses. Full fibre means a fibre cable runs straight to your property rather than using older copper wires, and Fibrus says that means a connection that is not shared with neighbours. It is based in Belfast and was ranked 13th in the Sunday Times 100 Tech list for 2026 for its sales growth.
The company's founders are Conal Henry, its founder and chair, and Dominic Kearns, its co-founder. In 2020 Henry said that proper platform competition can stimulate investment and that Fibrus was in Northern Ireland to deliver exactly that. The company's help pages describe the same approach in everyday terms: a local presence, local staff who provide customer support and technical help, and fast switching between providers.
Fibrus began in Northern Ireland, where in 2020 it said it was ahead of schedule on a promise to build in over 100 towns, starting with places in South Down. It then took its network to England. In 2023 press coverage described building in Cumbria, including Penrith and Kendal, and a plan to reach about 125,000 premises across 40 towns and villages in Northumberland and Durham, including Blyth, Ashington, Newton Aycliffe and Morpeth. At the time of that report it had covered 256,000 premises and had 36,000 customers. Those numbers are from 2023 so they will have changed. In the same report it said it was aiming for around a million premises by early 2026, including about 450,000 in Northern Ireland, which is roughly half of homes there, with the rest in England and Scotland. In 2022 it also launched broadband plans for businesses.
Fibrus does not publish much about its working culture on the pages we could read, so we cannot give a full picture. What we can say is that it describes itself as local and customer-focused, and that its leadership team has included people from mergers, growth and infrastructure backgrounds, such as Luke Rowett, who was appointed Chief Strategy Officer in 2023.
Building and selling broadband across two countries needs a wide mix of people: engineers who design and install networks, project managers who coordinate local build teams, customer service advisers, sales and marketing staff, and finance and data teams. Because Fibrus is building in Northern Ireland and several parts of England, roles may be spread across several places. Its website is the best place to see what is currently open.
