Flock

A London insurer for commercial vehicle fleets that uses driving data to help fleets avoid crashes and rewards them for becoming safer.

About Flock

Flock is an insurance company for commercial vehicle fleets. It insures fleets such as couriers, haulage, taxis, rental vans and Amazon delivery partners, and it uses data from telematics devices in vehicles to understand driving behaviour. Its stated goal is to predict and prevent crashes before they happen, and drivers who stay within safe-driving parameters earn cheaper premiums.

Flock says it wants to make roads measurably safer. Its about page says it insures commercial fleets, helps customers avoid accidents and rewards those who get safer over time. The company emerged from academia in 2015 and was co-founded by Antton Peña and Ed Leon Klinger, who is chief executive. It began with drone insurance, launching pay-as-you-fly cover in 2018, then moved to motor fleets in 2020 as its main business and closed the drone line in 2021. In 2022 it extended its fleet cover to courier van rental fleets, and in 2024 it expanded into taxi insurance.

Flock is headquartered in London and moved into a new London office in 2024. Its registered address is in Cardiff, Wales. Press coverage says it has more than 600 customers including Jaguar Land Rover, and has formed partnerships with Admiral and Acorn. Its fleet product is aimed at segments including Amazon delivery partners, courier, haulage, taxi, removals, telecom and fleets built into vehicle makers' own offers, and it tracks the miles it insures. It has said it plans to more than double its UK headcount over the coming years.

Flock publishes six values: Customer First, Focus and bias for action, Take ownership, Simplify, Think outside the box, and Work as a team. It says it runs quarterly Flock Firesides with entrepreneurs, team lunches, sports days and a run club, and has published a diversity, meritocracy and inclusion manifesto. It says hiring involves a hiring-manager interview, a skills interview with a practical challenge, and a final interview with the chief executive. Its page lists benefits including private healthcare, three paid learning days a year, £1,000 for professional qualifications and flexible working. These are the company's own claims.

A company like Flock employs underwriters and pricing analysts, data scientists, software engineers, claims and customer service teams, and partnership and sales staff who work with brokers, telematics providers and vehicle makers. It also says that staff come from insurance and from other industries, so a background in data, technology or customer work can lead into the business.
