About Frazer-Nash Consultancy

Frazer-Nash Consultancy is a systems, engineering and technology consultancy. Rather than selling a product, it gives expert advice and carries out technical work for clients in defence, aerospace, space, nuclear, marine, transport, power and energy. Its listed areas of expertise include systems engineering, asset integrity, electrical and electronic engineering, digital delivery, security and resilience, sustainability and responsible autonomy. In space, its conference page says it helps clients use space in a safe, secure and sustainable way, including protecting UK national interests. We did not find named space projects, so we describe only the stated focus.

The name goes back to Archie Frazer-Nash, who founded a specialist car company in the 1920s. The consultancy grew out of the group's engineering analysis work, expanded through a management buyout with large Ministry of Defence support contracts, and later joined Devonport Management Limited and then Babcock International in 2007. In 2021 Babcock agreed to sell it to US engineering company KBR, so it is now part of KBR but trades under its own name. Its stated aim is to help organisations make lives safe, secure, sustainable and affordable, and its listed values are care, collaboration, trust, delivering value and making a difference.

In the UK, one report describes the head office as Dorking in Surrey, and a company directory lists a registered office in Leatherhead, Surrey, so check which applies. The directory says it has 14 UK locations, including Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow, Gloucester, Harwell, Lincoln, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Portsmouth and Plymouth, plus four in Australia. Harwell is the heart of the UK space cluster and Bristol is home to Space West, so those sites matter for space work. A 2021 report put the workforce at about 900 and the directory says more than 1,000 now, though the directory entry has not been claimed by the company.

The company describes its teams as collaborative and multidisciplinary, with staff from graduates to internationally recognised experts, an enthusiastic and encouraging culture, and early-career teams and office socials. These are the company's own claims. Client work is organised into areas such as fluids, thermal and process engineering, structural and mechanical integrity, and design and concept engineering.

Roles are mainly for engineers and analysts: systems engineers, mechanical and structural analysts, thermal specialists, electrical and software engineers, consultants who manage client projects, and security, safety and digital specialists. The work suits people who like maths, physics and solving problems, and who enjoy variety. The company's own website lists its current teams.
