Fremantle UK

The UK production arm of Fremantle, behind The Apprentice and many entertainment, factual and drama shows.

About Fremantle UK

Fremantle UK is the British production arm of Fremantle, the global entertainment group owned by RTL Group. It makes scripted, comedy, entertainment, factual, reality and lifestyle programmes for UK broadcasters, global streaming platforms and other markets. Its own site names shows including The Apprentice, 007 Road to a Million and Hot Mess Summer.

The company's tagline is "Create the Extraordinary, Together". On its UK page it says it aims for originality, diversity and creative excellence, and describes its teams as passionate, hard-working and collaborative.

The group traces its roots to 1993, when Pearson bought Thames Television, and the Fremantle name came from a company acquired in 1994. In the UK, the business is made up of several labels. Wikipedia lists units such as Talkback Thames, Naked Television, Arrow Media, Dancing Ledge, Red Planet Pictures, Wildstar Films and Euston Films Castlefield, which covers Manchester and the north of England. The group's headquarters is in London. Wikipedia also says Fremantle's formats include Idol and Got Talent. Wikipedia says the group adopted the Fremantle brand in 2018, that Talkback Thames was formed in 2003 when Talkback Productions merged with Thames Television, and that the group's scripted work includes American Gods, Deutschland 83 and The Mosquito Coast. A 2024 trade headline says Fremantle UK was merging Thames and Talkback again.

Fremantle says its workplace is welcoming, inclusive and open, and that it wants to reflect diverse audiences in its teams. These are the company's own claims. Its UK page also lists awards from bodies such as BAFTA, the Royal Television Society, the Grierson Trust and Broadcast, which gives a sense of the kind of work it is proud of. It works with writers, producers, directors, actors and presenters from around the world.

In a production company, jobs include development, producing and directing, production management, editing, finance, legal and business affairs, and marketing. Each label has its own creative identity, so it is worth looking at the shows each one makes and following the ones that match your interests. Fremantle's website lists its labels and leadership, so start there to see where the teams are based.
