About Gallagher UK

Gallagher is an insurance broker, risk management firm and consultancy. An insurance broker advises customers on what cover they need and then finds it from insurers. In the UK it helps businesses buy and manage insurance, protect staff, improve policy terms and cut claims. It also offers HR, benefits and employee consulting on topics such as culture, communications, financial wellbeing and retirement planning, wealth management for individuals, and claims support.

Arthur J. Gallagher founded the company in Chicago in 1927, with the aim of doing business differently and ethically. On its UK site, Gallagher gives its purpose as "To help you face your future with confidence" and names three core values: passionate service, strategic innovation and ethical behaviour. Those are the company's own words. We did not find any other UK-only mission text.

Gallagher's UK head office is at 25 Walbrook, London EC4N 8AF. Insurance Age's 2024 broker directory lists 44 UK offices including the head office and about 6,750 expected UK employees as at 30 June 2024, with the leadership including Michael Rea (CEO, Global Brokerage UK) and Nick Harris (CEO, UK and Ireland Retail). A 2018 article described the UK retail network as having more than 50 locations. Local acquisitions have added offices, such as Risk Services Ltd in Chester, a firm of about 20 staff set up in 1999.

The company's UK pages emphasise its people, describing staff as knowledgeable and easy to talk to, and as the ones who handle the detailed work for clients. Insurance Age's directory splits staff 56% men and 44% women across the company overall, and 70% men and 30% women at board level, which shows there is still progress to make on gender balance at the top. We did not find a UK culture page, so ask about day-to-day life when you meet the team.

Because Gallagher combines broking with benefits, risk consulting and wealth services, it employs many types of people: brokers and account executives, claims specialists, HR and benefits consultants, financial planners, analysts and operations staff. Offices stretch from London to regional towns and cities, so you do not have to work in the capital. A 2013 deal that brought the London-based Giles Group into Gallagher, and later regional purchases, show how its UK network was built from local firms with their own client bases.
