About Galliford Try

Galliford Try is a UK construction group that works in both building and infrastructure. Its sectors include education, defence, health, custodial and judicial buildings, residential, commercial, infrastructure, environment, digital infrastructure and facilities management. Its group brands include Morrison Construction, Lintott, AVRS Systems and Ham Baker Engineering, the last of which makes water-related products. The company calls itself one of the UK's leading construction groups and highlights strengths in off-site and modern methods of construction, digital delivery and net-zero capability.

The business has two older roots. The Galliford business was based in the Midlands, and WS Try was founded in Uxbridge around the time of the First World War. They merged in 2000 to form a national contractor. In 2006 the company bought Morrison Construction, which had worked in Scotland since the Second World War, and in 2014 it added Miller Construction. In 2020 it sold its two housebuilding businesses, Linden Homes and Galliford Try Partnerships, which became part of Vistry Group, leaving a company focused on construction and infrastructure. Since 2021 it has added water, controls and engineering businesses including the water arm of nmcn, MCS Control Systems and AVRS.

The company says its "purpose is to improve lives through what we do", and that this starts with a culture in which people can thrive. Its values, set out on a separate page we did not read, are described as driving "lasting change" for the communities in which it works. It calls itself a "people-orientated, progressive business". It also says it is "values-driven" and that it balances financial performance with its obligations to all those with a stake in the business. Those are the company's own words.

Its head office is in Uxbridge, where WS Try was founded. The pages we read did not list other offices or regions, and said only that the company works across the country, so we cannot say which towns and cities it operates from. Its company page says it employs about 4,300 people across the UK. Its recent recognition, according to the same page, includes Infrastructure Project of the Year for the Banwell Bypass and four Highways Champions Awards.

In a company like this the roles run from site engineers and managers to quantity surveyors, planners, design managers and water and highway engineers, to specialists in offsite manufacturing, digital delivery and carbon and sustainability, along with commercial, finance, legal and people teams. If you like practical problem-solving, or want to work on schools, hospitals and roads that your community uses, there are many ways in. Vacancies are listed on its website.
