Genie AI

A London company with an AI platform for drafting and reviewing legal contracts, alongside a marketplace of lawyers.

About Genie AI

Genie AI is a legal technology company, which means it builds software to make legal work quicker and cheaper. Its AI helps people draft, review, edit and negotiate contracts (the written agreements between businesses, such as a supplier agreement or a non-disclosure agreement). It is aimed at business teams such as founders, sales, procurement and in-house lawyers, who often cannot afford to pay a law firm for every document. The company describes itself as 'The Global Legal Brain'.

Genie AI was co-founded by Rafie Faruq (chief executive) and Nitish Mutha (chief technology officer). Both studied machine learning at University College London, and the idea came out of research there. Faruq also studied at the London School of Economics and earlier started a charity fundraising platform called GivTree in 2014; Mutha worked as a software engineer in India before UCL. The company was started through Entrepreneur First, a programme that backs people to start companies, and its website says it launched in 2017. A jobs-site profile places its headquarters in Notting Hill Gate, London, with 21 to 100 employees, though Genie AI's own site does not state its address.

A jobs-site profile says its mission is to open source the law. Reporting on its early years said it wanted to make legal help more accessible to businesses that struggle to afford it or do not know what they need, with the aim of letting people 'understand, customize and negotiate any legal document'. After a January 2026 rebrand its website describes the goal as creating 'the standards infrastructure for legal and AI to agree contracts automatically and empower business teams'.

The product includes a library of more than 500 contract templates, an AI contract assistant you can ask questions of your documents, and a review tool that checks a contract against your own rules (a 'playbook') and suggests edits as tracked changes you can export to Word. It also offers a Word add-in and connections to email, customer-record systems, cloud storage and e-signature tools, and a system it calls Eidetic Intelligence for handling deals made up of many documents (the company describes this as patent-pending). Early reports said Clifford Chance, Pinsent Masons and Withers were piloting its drafting technology. The website claims 200,000 plus businesses and users and names customers including Bright Renewables, Firefish and Cambridge United; these are the company's own claims.

Working at a small technology company like this tends to mean varied work and early responsibility. The jobs profile lists values such as an equal voice for everyone, freedom to own your work and having fun, plus perks including unlimited holiday, flexible working, a learning budget and private healthcare, and says it won a Sunday Times Best Places to Work award (all the company's own claims). The roles we saw listed were an Agentic Engineer, open to junior, mid or senior people, and a Head of Marketing. We found no dedicated graduate scheme, apprenticeship or internship, so check the careers page for current openings.
