Gigaclear

An Abingdon-based company that designs, builds and runs full fibre broadband networks in rural England, serving more than 250 communities across 26 counties.

About Gigaclear

Gigaclear designs, builds and operates full fibre broadband networks in rural Britain. Fibre to the premises means a glass fibre cable goes all the way to a home or business instead of relying on old copper lines, which slow down over long distances. Its website says it serves more than 250 communities across 26 counties, with about 600,000 premises passed and more than 175,000 customers. It sells home and business broadband, home phone and Smart WiFi, and builds both with its own commercial plans and through the government's Building Digital UK programme and the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme.

Gigaclear was founded in December 2010 by Matthew Hare, who lived in rural Oxfordshire and saw how hard it was for homes and businesses in the countryside to get fast, reliable internet. Its first fibre network opened in Hambleton, Rutland, in October 2011, and in 2012 it delivered its first gigabit network in the Oxfordshire villages of Appleton, Eaton and Besselsleigh. Its mission, in its own words, is "To transform rural communities across the UK". Chief executive Nathan Rundle said in 2025 that the aim is to make sure rural communities are "no longer left behind".

The head office is in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, supported by six regional teams based at offices and warehouses in Cheltenham, Taunton, Witham, Daventry, Swindon and Aldermaston. A 2024 report said the company had more than 750 people across six offices. In 2025 the company said it connected more than 30,000 new premises under Project Gigabit, the government programme that pays for networks in areas not served by commercial plans, and it named awards including Rural ISP of the Year 2025 at the UK Fibre Awards, which are its own claims.

On culture, the careers site describes a "vibrant, fast paced, exciting" company in which how people work matters as much as results. Its values are "Find a way, be committed, do the right thing, and keep it simple". It lists employee survey quotes such as "This organisation actually cares for all staff" and benefits including pension matching, 25 days' holiday and access to online learning. Gigaclear also runs a Rural Sports Club Fund and community events in the villages where it builds.

The careers pages describe departments including Project Delivery, which oversees network builds and contractors, Field Engineering, which handles installations and faults, and Customer Operations, based at the Abingdon head office. Gigaclear needs surveyors and designers, project managers, engineers and installers, community engagement staff and customer service teams. If you enjoy the countryside and practical work, or want to work somewhere that links technology with local communities, this is a company to watch. Subjects such as engineering, geography, business and computing all connect to it.
