A UK media and entertainment company behind radio brands such as Heart, Capital and Classic FM, plus an out-of-home advertising division.
Global, formally Global Media and Entertainment, is one of the UK's biggest media companies. It owns radio brands including Capital, Heart, Smooth, Radio X, Gold, Classic FM and LBC, and it runs 33 stations. It also has The Global Awards, the audio advertising platform DAX, the Captivate podcast platform and an Outdoor division that sells advertising on roadside and other sites. A trade profile says it reaches about 24.8 million weekly radio listeners.
We did not find a formal mission statement. A trade profile describes the company as "obsessed with radio, music and entertainment" and notes it emphasises opportunities for young people and community support. It runs Global's Make Some Noise, a charity that raises money for small children's charities across the UK, and the Global Academy, a university technical college in Hayes that trains young people for broadcast and media careers.
Global was founded in 2007 by Ashley Tabor-King, who remains its founder and owner, listed as Founder and Executive President. It grew by buying Chrysalis Radio, which brought Heart and LBC, then GCap Media in 2008 and GMG Radio in 2012, and adopted the name Global Media and Entertainment in 2017. In 2018 it bought Primesight and Outdoor Plus to create its Outdoor division. The company is headquartered in London. Capital's network studios are at Leicester Square, and the Global Academy is in Hayes, Hillingdon.
Lord Allen of Kensington is chairman and Simon Pitts was appointed Group Chief Executive in March 2024, starting in early 2025. The company has added podcast businesses including Captivate in 2021 and The Fellas Studios in 2025, plus a majority stake in The Overlap in January 2026. These are company and press descriptions, and we did not find detail on day-to-day working culture.
The company employs on-air presenters and producers, journalists, music and programming teams, sales and advertising planners, technology and data staff for platforms like DAX, event and festival teams, outdoor media sellers and operations staff, and teachers and support staff at the Global Academy. Students who enjoy music, talk, news, video or data can find a match in one of these functions. The company also says it sells more than a million festival tickets a year and runs two music TV channels, so events, television and audience teams matter too.
