A London fintech that helps businesses collect recurring payments straight from customers' bank accounts, using Direct Debit and open banking. It has run a graduate sales scheme.
GoCardless helps businesses collect payments directly from their customers' bank accounts. If you pay a gym, magazine or utility firm by Direct Debit, or approve a payment through your banking app, that kind of bank-to-bank payment is GoCardless's speciality. For businesses it replaces slower, more expensive card payments, particularly for recurring bills.
GoCardless was founded in 2011 by Hiroki Takeuchi, Matt Robinson and Tom Blomfield, who were students at Oxford University. Tom Blomfield later co-founded Monzo. The company is headquartered in London, with a US office in San Francisco. Wikipedia reports that about 100,000 businesses used it as of 2025.
Its products include Direct Debit payments, open banking payments, a payment gateway, an API for developers and tools for tracking payments, handling failures and reporting. It integrates with accounting tools such as QuickBooks, Xero and Salesforce.
GoCardless says it wants to help build "the first ever global bank payment network".
For young people, GoCardless has run a Sales Graduate Scheme, announced on its blog, and describes a hybrid working culture, learning support, wellbeing days and volunteering days. Its careers page lists current roles, so check it for graduate or entry-level openings.
